Ecuador represents a variety of Neotropical habitats which allows birder to tick many Neotropical bird families. From the Choco on the western Andean slope, via chilly Paramo on Andean mountain with picks over 4000 m altitude, down to the humid hot mighty Amazon plains. Smaller in size relatively to other south American nations, distances between these various birding hotspots can be shorter, although can turn instantly into unreachable due heavy rains or other nature forces. Mindo area: I ticked the Oilbird in Cueva de los Tayos (on private property, coordination with the owner required) , and Red-headed Barbet as well as other American Barbets on few bird feeders around. On the way to Coca and the jungle, got my first Hoatzin.
